Media and Post Section has the following mandates:-

  • Licensing of Cable Television Operators
  • Licensing of Broadcasting Services
  • Licensing of Print Media Services
  • Reviewing of films for certification
  • Licensing of Multi Service Operators
  • Enforcement of various licence terms and conditions
  1. Cable Television:

    Television was introduced in Bhutan in the year 1999.Since then the sector has made remarkable progress in terms of infrastructure and coverage. Cable Television today, is the main source of information and entertainment to the Bhutanese people. Currently there are 49 cable operators  across the country with approximately 20. 000 subscribers.

    • copy of citizenship id card
    • duly filled catv form
    • licence fee of Nu 10,000.00

  2. Broadcasting:

    Bhutan Broadcasting Service is currently the only National Television Service provider with 10 hours of service. The launching of National Satellite Television on 20th February 2006 marked yet another historical moment in the media sector.  BBSC provide 16 hours of Radio service in a day while Kuzoo FM Centenary Radio and Radio Valley broadcast for 24 hours.

  4. National Film and TV Preview Board:

    National Film and TV Preview Board was re-established in October 2005 to review the cinematographic films prior to the public viewing. The board consist of five members, BICMA serving as the Secretariat for the Board. The board issues the certificate for the approval of public viewing if the board is of the opinion that the film so reviewed is in accordance with the various guidelines of the Royal Government.

  5. Multi Service Operator:

    BICMA has licensed One Multi Service Operator(BBS - MSO) for the provision of Cable Television Channel services in the country. The MSO jointly negotiate with the outside service providers for provision of affordable service to the lcoal cable operators in the country.
