The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Rural Communication Programme (RCP) Phase VII, which commenced in February 2024. The project aimed to connect 225 households in 27 previously unconnected villages across 12 Dzongkhags. The project was implemented with the total USF fund of Nu. 200,933,221.50. The mobile network infrastructure was commissioned and completed ahead of schedule, within the planned 18-month implementation period, bringing reliable mobile communication services to these remote communities.

The BICMA also implemented the RCP Phase VI from March 2021 to September 2022, providing the mobile network services in 66 remote villages in Bhutan consisting of a total of 483 households across 10 districts. The RCP VI project was implemented with the total cost of Nu. 280,520,435.51

This achievement reflects BICMA’s ongoing commitment to promoting universal access to ICT services and bridging the digital divide across Bhutan. We extend our sincere appreciation to the two telecom network operators, GovTech Agency, local governments, and the communities for their valuable support and cooperation in the successful completion of this project.
