In pursuant to the Government Technology Agency’s policy directive vide GovTech/DoTS/40(5)/2024-2025/2222 dated 7th May 2025, the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority revises the entry level broadband definition in Bhutan to 5 Megabits per second (Mbps), which means the entry-level broadband in Bhutan should have an internet connection that offers a minimum download speed of 5Mbps.

 

Therefore, the broadband definition, established under the “Bhutan Telecommunications and Broadband Policy 2014”, section 5 (B) (1) shall be revised from initial 512 Kilobits per second (Kbps) to 5 Megabits per second (Mbps) as an entry level broadband in Bhutan.
